Voluntary Load Reduction Program PDF Print E-mail

If your facility can shed some electric load when the cost of power has risen significantly, you can earn money back! This can be for the summer or any other month. With spot power prices electricgasquoterising significantly, this could be an opportunity to make some money and offset the higher costs you incurred as a result of deregulation.

A little background, PJM is the Retail Transmission Operator (RTO) that ComEd belongs to. There are several utilities that comprise PJM. They extend from Illinois all the way to the east coast (http://www.pjm.com/). One of their missions is to promote system reliability. To do that they must ensure that assets (power plants or lines) are sufficient to meet their critical needs. Often during the warmest days, they are not. Rather than build expensive new assets, they offer a program that encourages end users to shed load.

The program is completely voluntary and has no financial or physical risk. Quite simply, if you are called and can shed some load you will be paid based on real time market rates for that hour. If you can't shed, no problem, there are no penalties for non performance. This program is separate from anything ComEd is offering and can work in conjunction with their VLR program. The economics of this program are superior to ComEd’s offer.  Also, you can participate thru us regardless of who your current electric marketer is.
